Whether you're planning a new custom home, expanding with a thoughtful addition, or remodeling a beloved space, the process can feel overwhelming—unless you’re working with the right team. At AGC Home Remodeling, building out of Austin, TX, we’ve developed a step-by-step process to ensure your construction project is efficient, transparent, and successful from start to finish.

Here’s a look at how we bring your vision to life.

1. Pre-Start Site Walkthrough & Planning

Before a single hammer swings, we begin with a comprehensive site walkthrough. For remodels or additions, we inspect the existing home’s structure, layout, and mechanical systems. We take photos, measurements, and document current conditions that could impact construction.

We also review our Pre-Construction Checklist, which covers:

  • Access points for crews and materials

  • Safety considerations

  • Permit status

  • Utility connections

  • Scheduling expectations

This step ensures that both our team and our client are fully aligned before we break ground.

Pre-construction staging begins here—every successful remodel starts with careful planning, site prep, and alignment on project details.

2. Site Preparation

Next, we prepare your property for work. This may include:

  • Installing temporary fencing or safety signage

  • Setting up dumpsters and portable toilets

  • Protecting trees, landscaping, or adjacent structures

  • Establishing access routes for trucks and equipment

A clean, safe site is essential for smooth progress and code compliance.

3. Demolition, Grade Work, Foundation & Rebar

For remodels or tear-downs, we begin by carefully removing any existing structures or interior finishes. We then complete grading work to ensure proper drainage and elevation.

Once the site is prepped, we form and reinforce the foundation, laying out rebar per engineered plans. We take care to:

  • Ensure correct depth and alignment

  • Install post-tension or conventional rebar systems

  • Maintain a clean foundation area before inspections

4. Inspections: Foundation, Electrical & Plumbing Pre-Pour

Before concrete is poured, we coordinate all necessary pre-pour inspections:

  • Foundation Inspection: Verifies dimensions, footings, rebar placement

  • Electrical Pre-Pour: Checks for conduit, grounding, and slab penetrations

  • Plumbing Pre-Pour: Confirms waste and water line layout beneath the slab

These inspections help catch potential issues early and keep your project on schedule.

5. Framing

Once the slab is poured and cured, framing begins. This phase builds the structural skeleton of your home:

  • Floor systems (if applicable)

  • Walls, sheathing, and support beams

  • Roof trusses or rafters

We follow architectural drawings and local codes to the letter. By the end of this phase, you’ll see your home take shape in three dimensions.

6. Window Installation

We install energy-efficient, code-compliant windows at this stage to enclose the home and begin “drying in” the structure. Proper flashing and sealing techniques are used to prevent air or water leaks.

7. Electrical, Plumbing & Mechanical Rough-Ins

Now that the frame is up and enclosed, we run:

  • Electrical wiring, boxes, and panels

  • Plumbing supply and drain lines

  • HVAC ductwork, returns, and air handler setups

All of these systems are laid out behind the walls and must pass code inspections before we can insulate.

8. Inspections: Framing, Electrical, Plumbing & Insulation

We coordinate with local inspectors for:

  • Framing inspection

  • Electrical rough-in

  • Plumbing rough-in

  • Mechanical/HVAC rough

  • Insulation inspection

Our team ensures all trades are aligned and the project is clean and ready before inspections. Only once approved can we move to drywall.

9. Drywall Installation

Drywall (sheetrock) is hung, taped, mudded, sanded, and primed. This is the first time the interior begins to feel like a finished home. Attention to detail here prevents problems down the line with paint, tile, or cabinetry alignment.

10. Interior Finishes: Cabinetry, Countertops, Tile, Flooring

With the bones complete, we move into finish work:

  • Cabinets are installed to exact measurements

  • Countertops are templated and later installed

  • Tile work is laid out precisely—especially in wet areas

  • Flooring (wood, vinyl, carpet, etc.) is installed with transitions accounted for

This stage combines form and function—and is often the most exciting for homeowners to see progress.

11. Trim-Outs: Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC

Now we install all final fixtures:

  • Light fixtures, switches, and outlets

  • Sinks, faucets, and toilets

  • Vents, thermostats, and HVAC grills

These elements bring the systems to life and get us closer to move-in ready.

12. Painting: Interior & Exterior

Our professional painters use high-grade materials to deliver a clean, consistent finish. We:

  • Protect surfaces and prep thoroughly

  • Prime and paint in the right conditions

  • Apply your chosen palette both inside and out

This step brings color and warmth to your home.

13. Hardware & Details

We add the final layer of refinement:

  • Door handles and locks

  • Cabinet hardware

  • Mirrors, shelving, and bathroom accessories

These small touches complete the design and personalize the space.

14. Landscaping (If Applicable)

If your project includes landscaping, we execute the plan with:

  • Planting and irrigation

  • Walkways or patios

  • Sod or mulch installation

Curb appeal matters, and we make sure the exterior looks just as good as the interior.

15. Pre-Final Walkthrough

Before we hand over the keys, we conduct a pre-final walkthrough with our internal team and then with you. This allows us to:

  • Note any touch-ups or corrections

  • Confirm punch list items

  • Ensure systems are working properly

16. Final Walkthrough & Handover

You join us for the final walkthrough, where we:

  • Demonstrate systems and controls

  • Review warranties and documentation

  • Celebrate the completion of your project

Only when you’re fully satisfied do we consider the job done.
